Control Programme: Contributor Privacy Notice

This privacy notice concerns a television series with the working title “Control” (“the Series”) which Optomen Television Ltd is producing for Channel 4 (and potentially for worldwide distribution).

About the Series

The Series aims to give viewers a never-before-seen insight into the command and control function of the Devon and Cornwall Police force control room and show how this interconnects with the frontline work of the police officers on the ground as they deal with hundreds of emergency incidents and planned operations on a daily basis.

With an emphasis on the complex and sensitive challenges faced by police officers and police staff, the Series will cover both the work of control room and the officers on the ground as they deal with crime and disorder and work to ensure the safety of the public within their policing area.

The Series will document the daily decisions and strategic management of emergency incidents from force control, planned operations on the ground that feed into the control room and the work of the officers on the ground whose work is overseen from force control.

At a time when these police forces are facing unprecedented pressures to deliver core policing including rising demand for their services, reduced budgets and a change in the nature of crime, the Series will provide an important perspective on contemporary policing, showing the competing demands on resources and the range of methods used to meet those demands.

The Series will involve observational filming with multiple crews, interviews and police-generated material and will mainly focus on reactive policing while including some planned operations.
