Assistant Group Property Manager
Alex is the Assistant Group Property Manager at All3media and joined Optomen in November 2017. He manages the reception team and the IT structure. Prior to joining Optomen, Alex was the Office Manager at Betty for more than four years, previously working at Freeform Productions.
Legal and Business Affairs Executive
Amanda began her media career in local commercial radio as a presenter at the height of Britpop alongside studying Law and Psychology. She joined BBC Legal as a Paralegal in 2002 working across BBC Brands, Specialist Factual, Top Gear, Children’s Radio 1 and BBC Switch. Amanda went on to work for Channel 4 and Five, progressing to Legal and Business Affairs Manager. After a brief departure from TV, working commercially in FMCG, the oil industry and computer games, Amanda worked with Secret Cinema (Top Gun, Lost Boys and The Third Man) before making the move to independent production. Amanda has experience across a variety of media, including radio, live events, feature documentary, specialist factual, factual, children’s, and music. Prior to joining Optomen, Amanda worked for Arrow Media, Firecracker Films and Pioneer where she advised on many hours of factual, science, history, current affairs and factual entertainment programming. In addition, she has worked on the first live documentaries broadcast from the International Space Station ‘Live from Space’, the legally complex ‘Modern British Slavery’, the feature documentary ‘Sherpa’ and the forthcoming ‘Mums Make Porn’. A lawyer known for her prowess in dealing with anything, everything and especially the weird and unusual. Amanda enjoys taking a proactive production role. In addition to her legal career, Amanda is a keen equestrian, musician, photographer and an ex-burlesque performer.
Head of Finance
Ben joined Optomen in 2018 and is responsible for managing the company’s finances.
Ben’s career in finance started in 2006 at Kingston Smith W1, a media specialist accounting firm, where he obtained his chartered accountancy qualifications. After gaining experience in the architecture and recruitment sectors, Ben moved into the TV industry in 2012 with all3media, where he was promoted to Group Controller.
Head of Casting
Before her time at Optomen Demi worked on a number of high profile shows including The Secret Life of 4 Year Olds, Big Brother, Educating Cardiff, The Apprentice and Gogglesprogs. Demi joined Optomen in 2016 and since then has worked as a producer on some of their most high profile shows; from Channel 4’s Genderquake to BBC2’s celebrity travelogue Eight Go Rallying. Demi is also responsible for creating and producing ITVBe’s hit reality show Absolutely Ascot which is returning for a second series this year.
Head of Development
Eliana Capitani joined Optomen as a Development Executive in September 2016.
Before joining Optomen she held development roles at a number of leading indies including Twenty Twenty Television, Mentorn Media and Studio Lambert. Her production credits include The Secret Millionaire, Seven Days and The Fairy Job Mother.
Francesca joined Optomen in June 2015 after a career break to bring up her 2 children. She is now the face of reception for Optomen, overseeing visitors and keeping the front of house running smoothly.
Holly joined Optomen in May 2018 as an Executive Assistant.
Holly has previously worked in similar roles for AKA agency and Condé Nast and at the Institute of Practitioners of Advertising as Groups Marketing Executive. She has also previously worked at companies such as Wall to Wall and RWF world as a Junior Researcher.
Leanne joined Optomen in March 2018 as a freelance Production Coordinator, having previously worked at companies such as ITV, Endemol, and Channel 5, working mostly on Entertainment and Factual Entertainment programming.
Leanne has recently been appointed Staff at Optomen, where she will be training towards production management and working across a number of projects.
Editor & Graphic Designer
Michael joined Optomen in 2003 to run their newly formed offline edit suites. Over the years he has edited for various productions including Man Made Home, Employable Me, and What Would Be Your Miracle? and has also provided graphics for a variety of Optomen shows including Matilda and the Ramsay Bunch, Heston’s Feasts and Escape to the Wild. He also contributes graphics and editing for the Optomen development team.
Nick joined Optomen in September 2016, and together with Tina Flintoff oversees the creative and commercial direction of the company, with particular emphasis on programme delivery.
Nick previously spent two years at Blast! Films as Head of Programmes where he was responsible for the first series of The Catch and Secret Life of the Zoo as well as Exec’ing across the range of the indie’s returning factual series. He previously spent three years at Channel 4 as a Commissioning Editor in Factual Entertainment and Features. Nick started his career as a researcher in Specialist Factual, and believes that TV can make a difference.
Prior to joining Optomen he started out at Evolutions, where he worked on shows such as The Only Way is Essex, QI, and The Graham Norton Show. Since joining Optomen he has edited the BBC Three short series How to Live When You’re Dying as well as overseeing the smooth running of all Optomen productions edited in house.
Senior Development Producer
Samuel Burr joined Optomen as a Development Producer in November 2016.
Before joining Optomen he held development roles at RDF Television and with the BBC’s in-house documentary team. He has been named One to Watch at Edinburgh Television Festival and a Broadcast Hot Shot.
Whilst at RDF, Sam worked across the popular factual development slate developing MAKE! Craft Britain for the BBC and producing the BAFTA nominated Channel 4 documentary series, The Secret Life of 4 and 5 Year Olds.
During his time at Optomen Sam has been responsible for developing the Channel 4 series Genderquake and BBC Two’s Eight Go Rallying: The Road to Saigon.
Chief Operating Officer
Sophy is responsible for ensuring successful Production, Legal, Finance, and Facilities operations. She manages commercial negotiation, risk and fiscal management ensuring successful UK origination and international rights exploitation.
Previously Sophy was Chief Operating Officer at award winning indie betty. As a founder member Sophy spent 13 years building and managing this successful production company, being instrumental in the selling of the company to Discovery in 2011. At betty she was responsible for Production, HR, Legal, Finance and Facilities; ensuring the successful delivery of over 300 hours of television for C4, BBC, ITV and Discovery.
Sophy has also worked as a freelance TV and business consultant having over twenty years’ experience in independent television production.
Sophy believes in creating a company where staff can do their best work; that training and investment in people adds value to the company. That work should be dynamic, stimulating and fun.
Tina joined Optomen as the Co-CEO in September 2016 responsible for developing new talent and creating factual, factual entertainment and features shows.
Before that she spent 4 years as a commissioning editor at Channel 4 overseeing a range of factual entertainment shows including Gadget Man with Stephen Fry, The Hoarder Next Door, 16 Kids and Counting, Naked Attraction, What Happens in Kavos, Travel Man with Richard Ayoade and magic series Troy for E4.
Verity Sutton Barrow
Head of Production
As Head of Production Verity is responsible for overseeing the smooth running of all output. Since 2007 She has held Head of Production roles at Leopard Films, Victory and betty and Production Executive roles at Shine and ITV Studios. Prior to joining Optomen she was the senior Production Executive at Objective Media Group managing a portfolio of start-up companies including Studio Ramsay.
Verity enjoys all genres of production most notably Factual, Factual Entertainment and Entertainment and programme highlights over the years include Jamie’s Kitchen, Cash in the Attic, Come Dine with me, The Biggest Loser, Who Wants to be a Millionaire, Heston’s Great British Food, Bear Grylls: Mission Survive, The Undateables and Gordon, Gino and Fred: The Ultimate Roadtrip.
