In July 2008 Optomen Television and Gordon Ramsay announced the formation of a new joint venture company - One Potato Two Potato - that will see them working together exclusively for the next seven years.
The new company is co-owned by Ramsay and Optomen and will produce all of Ramsay’s new worldwide audio visual output, as well as exploiting programmes and formats created with Gordon and the publishing and other ancillary opportunities arising from them.
One Potato Two Potato first major UK commission was Cookalong Live (7 x 60’) for Channel 4’s Autumn 2008 season. The series built on the success of Gordon’s first live Cookalong that aired in January 2008 as the climax of Channel 4’s Big Food Fight, achieving an audience of 4.5 million viewers and encouraging people across the country to cook with Gordon, live.
The Cookalong series was a great success as Gordon once again invited the nation to join him in their kitchens and for seven weeks he taught millions of viewers how to prepare and cook a different, bespoke three course meal. All in just one hour. This was the biggest and best cookery course ever, with one-to-one tuition for people all over the country from a world-class chef.
The Cookalong Live format has generated great interest around the world and Optomen International (who represent the format on behalf of One Potato Two Potato) has successfully sold the format to a number of countries across Europe and into the US.
The US Cookalong Live aired on 15th December 2009 on Fox and was a big success in getting people across America cooking. A 10 x 60’ Swedish version of the Cookalong format, presented by Swedish cook Tina Nordstrom, launched on 7 September 2009 with a special appearance by Gordon.
The second One Potato Two Potato commission for Channel 4 was for “Gordon’s Great Escape” a documentary series (3 x 60’) which premiers on 18 January 2010 on Channel 4 and follows Gordon as he journeys to India for the first time, exploring what is, for him, virgin territory, steering clear of fancy restaurants and searching out people whose skills have been passed down through generations. As well as a journey of foodie discovery viewers will gain insights into what Gordon is like when he steps out of the kitchen. We’ll see a very different side to him: more thoughtful, confessional, and open-minded. But just as passionate and determined in his search for culinary perfection.
“One Potato Two Potato” has a number of other major projects in development for Ramsay and his stable of top culinary talent in the UK, USA and Australia.
